Konnakol and 6/8 or 12/8 grooves
Today is 6/8 - witch is also one of the most common rhythms in music. To celebrate this I repost this because it's about what you can do in 6/8 with a little knowledge. To me rhythm is the art of timetravelling. Getting from point A to point B! And in this example in surprising new ways. I hope that this will bring delight to some of you and even inspire. The technique that I use to sing and count here derives from the 5000 years old Carnatic music tradition. And its called KONNAKOL.

KONNAKOL - because rhythm is universal
One thing that I learned from Trilok Gurtu and the whole Konnakol tradition is that there is soo much more to discover within a simple bar of 4/4 than most musicians can even imagine. Here is a simple example of how two bars of 4/4 can be turned in to amazing melodic rhythms. Most musicians has some knowledge about the basic chord progressions, in our culture, like: 4-5-1 or 2-5-1.
